Triad Kid Celebrates Crushing Leukemia

SUMMERFIELD, N.C. --  A 10-year-old boy not only beat cancer, he crushed it.

 

SUMMERFIELD, N.C. --  A 10-year-old boy not only beat cancer, he crushed it.

Johnny Van Kemp spent the last 3 three years battling cancer, but he is now cancer free. Sunday, his parents thew Johnny a party to celebrate and about 300 of his closest friends showed up. 

"I just can't believe that they came out here just for this," Van Kemp said. "It's just my party and I'm so excited that everyone came here, and I'm so happy, I love them all."

Johnny was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 7 years old, but never gave up. He even had the Wake Forest University basketball team rooting him on. He and his dad got to go to one of WFU's practices and then a game. At practice, the team gave the Johnny a signed basketball and a t-shirt. The players also prayed with him and the coach even named a play after him.

In March doctors told Johnny he was in remission, but still had more than 100 days of chemotherapy. June 29, will be a day Johnny never forgets. He had his last cancer treatment and doctors told him he was cancer free.
