Smith Street Diner in Greensboro Makes ‘Best Hole-In-The-Wall Diner’ List

Cheapism recently listed Smith Street Diner as "The Best Hole-in-the-Wall Diner" in North Carolina, known for its "cat head" biscuits and huge buttermilk pancakes.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WFMY) – Looking for your next breakfast spot? Scratch that. Looking for the BEST “hole-in-the-wall diner” in all of North Carolina? You may wanna take a stroll along Smith Street right here in Downtown Greensboro.

Cheapism recently listed Smith Street Diner as “The Best Hole-in-the-Wall Diner” in North Carolina, known for its “cat head” biscuits and huge buttermilk pancakes.

And it shows considering there’s about 300 customers on average, according to the servers and cooks.

It’s one plate in, one plate out at Smith Street Diner.

And regular customer James Scott knows why.

“I personally think they have the best pancakes,” Scott said. “I’ve been to other places and the quality of this pancake and the size of this pancake are by far the best.”

And his grandson Cullen Davis, who’s been coined “the pancake boy” at the Diner, thinks so too.

“When I was 2, I think, I ate a whole pancake and it was good,” the 6-year-old shared. “They’re fluffy.”

Michelle Garrett has been a server at the diner for five months, and says she already knows what most people come for.

“Definitely the two-farm-fresh-egg special, that’s really popular, as well as cornbeef hash or home hash, and biscuits and gravy,” Garrett said.

This top-ranked hole-in-the-wall won’t put a dent in your wallet, and luckily, it’s right here in the Triad.

Located at 438 Battleground Ave, the busy eatery is open “8 days a week,” everyday, from 6:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and until 2:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
