WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Here's your chance to buy works of art from the private collection of Dr. Maya Angelou.
Laster's Fine Art & Antiques at 664 S Stratford Road in Winston-Salem is handling the sale from the treasured personal art collection of Dr. Angelou. The sale will feature original works of art presented to her by artists from all over the world. The sale will be at Laster's gallery.
Items will be available for purchase beginning Friday, April 17th.
They're selling more than 200 paintings, prints and sculptures. Ryan Laster, a store manager at Laster's says this unique opportunity to sell the work of a legend is something that he'll never forget.
"I've been holding back tears, I think, for the last couple of hours. It's real emotional," said Laster. "It's quite an honor really to have been asked to handle this estate. She was a very, very important person to many people all over the world. Just to have a little bit of something from her is quite special."
Works by renowned artists such as Phoebe Beasley, Alonzo Adams, Synthia Saint James, John Willard Banks, and Robert Gwathmey will be available for purchase. The collection is also filled with original African-American paintings, prints, and sculptures, many with inscriptions to Dr. Angelou.
A total of three sales will be handled by Laster's. The first being the sale in their gallery, the other two will be on-site tag sales where the contents inside the homes of Dr. Angelou, including furniture and other household items will be offered to the public.
The art collection sales continues through the weekend.
The money from sales will go back to Angelou's family and estate.
