Helping others with your own authenticity: My 2 Cents

We are hesitant to let people in and tell them the bad parts of life, the things we’ve overcome or what we still struggle with. But we all have that side, too.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It’s time for ‘My 2 Cents.’

I saw a post online that said “your story could be a page in someone’s survival guide.” I’ve been thinking about it ever since.

I think it’s because typically, we only see one side of someone’s life – the best side. Maybe even the edited side. We are hesitant to let people in and tell them the bad parts of life, the things we’ve overcome or what we still struggle with. But, if we’re being honest, we all have that side, too.

I understand why people don’t want to be that vulnerable and put everything out there for the world to see. It’s comfortable to sugar coat it and gloss over the hard spots. I think it’s perfectly fine to do that.

But what if you told it like it was? What if you put out the real, the unedited, the raw you? It’s scary. But could it help someone else?

In a world that can seem so fake, so filtered – how can you be authentic?

I think people crave real, more than they crave fake. They want honest even if it’s harder to hear. They want to relate to you, not feel bad about themselves because you appear to have it all together.
