47th HAECO Invitational Tournament kicks off!

The Tournament will be played Dec. 19-22nd in the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The 47th HAECO Invitational  kicks off Dec. 19-22, 2023!

A change this year is that the event will be played at the Novant Health Field House in Greensboro.

This year’s schedule is unique due to a change in the Guilford County Schools annual calendar which does not release students for winter break until Thursday, Dec. 21 so the organization was forced to move to a four-day tournament with men’s opening games Tuesday, Dec. 19 and women’s opening games Wednesday, Dec. 20.

We got a chance to speak with organizers of this year's HAECO Invitational as they shared how much excitement has been around the tournament this year.

"We've got eight great programs and we're looking forward to phenomenal days of basketball," James Gentry, HAECO Invitational Co-Chair said.

Coaches from the Invitational who were No.1 Seeds themselves share what it's like sharing some of the skills they learned on the court to students.

"I always tell my team to be themselves and you'll be fine. They are good kids and they're working hard and they are doing well," Brian Robinson, Bishop McGuinness Women's Coach said.

"I played in this tournament when I was in high school and basketball is still a huge part of our community and businesses are coming together to sponsor this year's HAECO event and it's amazing feeling to see," Derrick Partee, Smith High School's Men's Coach said.

This will be followed by semifinals and championship games on Thursday and Friday.

Tickets can be purchased from the participating schools or at the Coliseum box office. For more information, click or tap HERE
