CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Miles Bridges, the Charlotte Hornets forward accused of violating a domestic violence order regarding the mother of his children, appeared in court on Monday in Mecklenburg County.
A notice of appearance was listed for Bridges on Monday morning, according to the court's online database. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office said the hearing was a notice of appearance by his attorney, which demonstrates he didn’t need to have one appointed.
Bridges surrendered himself to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office on Friday. Bridges is charged with domestic violence protection order violation, misdemeanor child abuse, and injury to personal property. He appeared before a judge and was released on a $1,000 bond.
A warrant was issued for Bridges' arrest after an alleged incident earlier this month.
According to the criminal summons, Bridges allegedly threatened the mother of his children during a custody exchange on Oct. 6, according to a police report filed on Oct. 10. The report claims that Bridges then threw pool balls at the victim's vehicle, smashing the windshield and denting the car. He then allegedly told her if she told police what happened, that he would "take everything from her and withhold child support."
All of this happened while the children were inside their mother's vehicle, according to the summons. The report also states that Bridges' current girlfriend yelled at the victim and kicked her car while his kids were inside.
A league source told WCNC Charlotte's Nick Carboni that the Hornets just learned of Bridges' warrant on Oct. 11.
"We are aware of the reports and are in the process of gathering more information," the Charlotte Hornets told WCNC Charlotte in response to the situation.
Bridges pleaded no contest to a domestic violence charge in Los Angeles in November 2022 and was given a three-year probation sentence. Bridges was charged in June 2022 while he was a restricted free agent, forcing him to miss the entire 2022-23 NBA season.
After Bridges' court case finished, the NBA announced he was suspended for the first 30 games of the 2023-24 season, with 20 games credited. Bridges will still miss the first 10 games of the upcoming season.
Bridges was Charlotte's leading scorer in the 2021-22 season, scoring 20.2 points per game. He played four seasons with the Hornets before he faced these charges.
