College Station, TX (Sports Network) - J'Covan Brown scored 20 points and handed out seven assists as the Texas Longhorns outlasted the Texas A&M Aggies in a Big 12 Conference showdown at Reed Arena.
Sheldon McClellan scored all 13 of his points in the first half and Alexis Wangmene chipped in 10 for Texas (15-9, 5-6 Big 12) which had lost two of its previous three.
Elston Turner netted 20 points for Texas A&M (12-11, 3-8) which had won back- to-back games entering play. David Loubeau had 14 points and six rebounds while Ray Turner chipped in 13 for the Aggies.
Texas A&M held a slim 34-33 lead at the half with both teams notching 11 field goals. The Aggies were more efficient hitting on 50.0 percent of its shots from the floor while the Longhorns were just 37.9 percent from the field.
Texas opened the second half on a quick 6-0 spurt and would not trail again until two Turner free throws put Texas A&M ahead 67-66 with 1:09 remaining. Brown answered with a layup on the other end and then connected on two free throws off an Aggie turnover to put the Longhorns up 70-67. On the Aggies next possession Turner was fouled and made the first free throw and then intentionally missed the second but the Longhorns pulled down the rebound to escape with the win.
Texas A&M held a slim edge on the boards outrebounding Texas 26-24.
