RALEIGH, N.C. — April signals the start of strawberry season in North Carolina, and the N.C. Department of Agriculture expects a very good crop despite wet and cold weather at the beginning of 2019.
North Carolina is the fourth-largest producer of strawberries in the nation, with about 1,100 acres harvested across the state, according to the state's department of agriculture.
Farmers have already started picking strawberries in the eastern part of the state. Piedmont farmers are expected to being picking in mid-April. Growers in the mountains should start picking by the first of May.
