GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police upgraded charges in a deadly crash on I-73 South ramp going toward I-40 West.
Officers arrested Destiny Nicole Hankins, 24, on Tuesday and charged her with felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, and possession of drug paraphernalia, two months following the crash. She originally faced a misdemeanor death by vehicle charge.
Marcus Nivens, 62, of Winston-Salem, died in the crash on February 14. Police said Hankins ran off the road and hit Nivens as he was filling up his gas tank on the shoulder. Nivens was wearing a reflective safety vest.
