Hurricane Joaquin A Category 4 Storm Turning North

WFMYNews2 --Hurricane Joaquin, a category 4 storm located in the Bahamas. The storm has sustained winds of 130 mph and was moving to the N at 3 mph. The storm has begun the expected turn to the north. Also, the updated forecast track takes the storm farther off the East Coast of the U.S. The hurricane may never male landfall on the U.S. However some severe beach erosion is expected especially at the time of high tide.

Early indications point to the storm moving north offshore over the weekend and into Monday

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the central Bahamas, Northwestern Bahamas including the Abacos, Berry Islands, Eleuthera, Grand Bahama Island, New Providence, The Acklins, Crooked Island, and Mayaguana in the southeastern Bahamas.

Hurricane Warning means that hurricane conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area. A warning is typically issued 36 hours before the anticipated first occurrence of tropical storm force winds.

A hurricane watch is in effect for Bimini and Andros Island.

A Hurricane Watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area, in this case within the next 36 to 48 hours.
