A line of storms is possible for Thursday afternoon. We are expecting damaging winds and hail as threats.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Heading into Thursday, the Piedmont Triad can expect a nice day to start, but the weather will go downhill to finish up the day. The WFMY News 2 Weather team is highlighting a threat of storms between 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Here's what we're tracking.

TIMING

We are expecting a line of storms to form and move through the area for the late afternoon and early evening. Storms are most likely between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Thursday.

After that, our weather will start to clear and the rest of our evening should be relatively calm and dry.

IMPACTS

Any storms that form for Thursday afternoon could produce some damaging wind gusts or hail. It's not likely that we will have a tornado threat, but that can't ever be completely ruled out.

We will be very warm and a bit humid. This provides the fuel for thunderstorms to form and grow in our area. That's why it's likely that they will get strong to possibly even severe once they move into our area from the mountains.

NEED TO DO

With storms likely for the evening commute time frame, it's good to have a plan in case you get caught in nasty weather.

  • Keep an eye on the Interactive Radar through the afternoon to see where storms are forming. Download the free WFMY News 2 app.
  • Plan to bring loose outdoor objects inside that could blow around in a bad storm.
  • Stay up to date for forecast updates from the WFMY Weather Team.
