Wet snow could mix with rain early Sunday before transitioning to all rain.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's been an exciting Sunday morning for those who like winter weather. A mix of snow and sleet greeted early risers across the Triad area. It may not last long. Our weather team is expecting it to switch over to rain by midday.

In a winter that hasn't had much winter intrigue, this is the most that we've had so far. A light accumulation is possible on grassy and elevated surfaces.

Weather Impact: Cool down coming for the weekend

Some warmer air will start to move in throughout the day which will turn any wet flakes into rain. It will be a cold and raw day of weather, spending most of the day in the 30s.

Winter Weather Advisories are posted for our northwestern counties ahead of rain/snow mix Sunday AM.

Winter weather advisories have been posted for our counties to the north and west of the Triad. These areas will have more cold air and therefore a better chance to see some wet snow mixing in at times. Accumulating snow is not expected for our area, but if precipitation starts with snow and it were to come down hard, a quick coating or a slick spot or two could pop up in these areas.

Around half an inch of cold rain is likely Sunday.

Bottom line, Sunday is cold and wet. This will mostly be a rainy system for our area, with around half an inch of rain by the time we're all said and done. Seeing wet snow at times with our rain is far from a guarantee, but there is the chance! It's not much to get excited about, but more so something fun to see if it happens. Accumulating snow or impacts aren't expected.

Rain tapers off and moves out for the most part by about 5-7 PM across our part of the Piedmont.

Slick spots or black ice isn't expected to be a problem Sunday night or Monday morning as temperatures stay above freezing.
