Vault Visit: City of Winston-Salem pays for towing mishap

WFMY News 2 looks back to when 40 cars were towed during a racing event at Bowman Gray Stadium on S. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. in Winston-Salem.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — This year, WFMY News 2 turns 75! So, to celebrate, we're opening the WFMY News 2 vault.

April 29, 2019, we told the story of some race fans who had an experience they'll never forget.

They went to a racing event at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem.

They parked in a city lot, which wasn't usually a problem. But this time, when they left, their cars weren't there! A new city worker was blocked in by all the vehicles and got about 40 cars towed.

Winston-Salem city leaders called it a misunderstanding.

It costs those drivers $300 a piece to get their cars back.

However, the city did reimburse them.
