How to land the perfect internship

Getting an internship in your field can be challenging. Body language expert, Blanca Cobb, helps viewers overcome the challenge.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — April is National Internship Awareness Month. Internships are a great way to get valuable experience in your field before graduation. But landing an internship can feel daunting. We're sharing tips on how to navigate an interview and internship itself.

Here are a few body language tips to navigate the interview. Many times, interviewees are nervous, which is natural. But, they come across as stiff and rigid in their movements. To help project confidence, you want to make sure that you're relaxed. Good eye contact, not a stare down, and leaning forward with still hands is a good way to show confidence.

Here are body language suggestions to help you make a good impression in the workplace after you've landed the internship. An overlooked body language move is posture. A straight posture with your head level during meetings and presentations shows you know you belong. Smile when talking to others. Watch out for closed body language like crossed arms or standing behind chairs and desks when interacting with others.

Your voice can reveal your interest and engagement in a conversation or meeting. Make sure you use vocal variety, not just monotone when talking. Keep your voice steady when you're talking about something serious or important.
