A Christian non-profit banned in South Carolina is soliciting for money in the Triad

NC Attorney General and Secretary of State say they are keeping an eye on the organization.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — A Christian faith based non-profit banned in South Carolina was seen soliciting for money in the Triad.

Miracle House of Hope Ministries claims it provides: housing for those in need, addiction and food resources.

South Carolina's Secretary of State banned the non-profit organization and calls it a scam.

North Carolina's Secretary of State and Attorney General's Office said they are monitoring the organization.

Some state leaders question how it uses the money it brings in.

South Carolina's Secretary of State's office told WFMY News 2 Miracle House of Hope has not provided proper finance documents since 2012.

Viewers told us they recently saw solicitors from the organization here in Greensboro. The CEO of Miracle House of Hope confirmed the Charlotte based organization is in the Triad.

WFMY News 2's Giselle Thomas went looking for answers about the non-profit's legitimacy.

Rules for non-profits are different in both Carolinas.

In North Carolina, non-profits are not required to file financial reports if they have a charity exemption.

Miracle House of Hope is legally operating in this state.

North Carolina's AG and the Secretary of State's Office confirm they got a pair of complaints that have not yet led to investigations.

One complaint to the NC Attorney General stated the solicitors from Miracle House of Hope "asked {a} disabled elderly woman sitting in a car for money." The individual wrote those actions sent off  "red flags" and after Googling the organization, they saw the "preacher had a warrant out for his arrest in SC."

In South Carolina, the non-profit is banned and the SC Secretary of State's Office has a warning to the public.

"We have to let our citizens know that this is not a legitimate organization, and they aren't in compliance with South Carolina Law," Shannon Wiley said.

She is a spokesperson for South Carolina's Secretary of State's Office.

Wiley said in South Carolina every non-profit is required to file annual financial reports for earnings.

South Carolina's Secretary of State's Office said in addition to no financial reports. Miracle House of Hope faces a $12,000 fine, and has not shown up to court.

"Unfortunately, we have no idea how they use their money because they won't tell us. It is a requirement in South Carolina, that if your soliciting funds you need to register and you do have to file a financial report with our office," Wiley said.

She said workers with the non-profit have shown up in vans, and pass out flyers to ask the public for money.

Miracle House of Hope said soliciting is it's last resort and has become it's only resource to get money for their organization.

Government partners refuse to work with the organization due to it's legal trouble.

"People are not asked to pay for anything. They are asked to help go out and solicit donations. Bad press has put a stigma associated with the name when in fact, we are helping the people." Cedrick Dean said.

He is serving temporarily as the organizations Executive Assistant Director.

South Carolina officials believe the non-profit continued to solicit money in their state after the ban. The organization denies that claim.

CEO of Miracle House of Hope said it wants to continue helping others and blames the alleged illegal acts on a misunderstanding.

WFMY News 2 asked Miracle House of Hope Ministries, how it made the same mistake for over a decade?

"We made mistakes and not filing certain paperwork, the goal is for it to never happen again." Dean said.

"It snowballed from there because I disregarded it. I was like it's not in my name and I don't have to answer any questions," CEO of Miracle House of Hope Bruce Little said, "At that time the program director was no longer there.

Organizers for Miracle House of Hope Ministries said they are taking the proper steps to clear it's name.
