3 in custody after car chase, police say

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Three people are in custody after a chase in Winston-Salem.

Winston-Salem police said officers from their Gang Unit, Gun Crime Reduction Unit, and Patrol Division were investigating multiple shots fired calls on Wednesday.

Officers found a car they believed was involved in the incidents in the area of University Parkway and Coliseum Drive.

Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the car failed to stop and a chase began.

The chase ended after a short distance and the three people in the car were taken into custody without incident.

After further investigation, three guns and a car were seized.

DeWayne Derrick Eley III, 18, was arrested. His charges included felony Flee to Elude, felony Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction, and misdemeanor Reckless Driving.

Eley appeared before the magistrate where he received a bond secured in the amount of $15,000. 

Two of the three occupants of the car were juveniles.
