18-year-old arrested for shooting within city limits & damaging property

Police say as far as they know, no one was injured in the shooting.

ASHEBORO, N.C. — An 18-year-old was arrested in Asheboro after shooting within city limits and damaging property Friday night, according to officers. 

Asheboro police recalled what happened.

They say it began Friday night around 7:50 p.m. Officers were sent to the area of S. Church St. and W. Wainman Ave. following reports of an armed person with gunshots in the area. 

Police said witnesses gave 911 a description and location of the suspect. When officers got there, they saw the suspect running on W. Wainman Ave. behind a business. 

After chasing the suspect for a short period of time, officers arrested Kelvin Cook and recovered a handgun. 

During the investigation, officers said they found six shell casings, and two cars damaged with gunfire. 

Police charged Cook with six counts of discharging a firearm inside city limits, two counts of injury to personal property, going armed to the terror of the public, and resisting a public officer. He was given a $25,000 bond. 

Police said at this time, no one was injured.
