Man charged in Winston-Salem shooting

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is facing charges after a shooting in Winston-Salem.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to the 5800 block of Gumtree Road in reference to a shooting Thursday around 1 a.m.

When deputies arrived, they found Preston Wilson Fansler, 21, had been shot.

Fansler was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

As a result of the investigation, deputies discovered Fansler and another man got into a fight and Fansler fired several shots at the man.

The man was uninjured and shot back at Fansler.

Deputies said they also discovered Fansler had assaulted a woman during a gathering at the same place as the shooting.

Fansler was charged with one felony count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, with Intent to Kill and one misdemeanor count of Assault on a Female.

Deputies said at this time the other man in the shooting will not be charged.
