Suspect facing multiple charges after shooting man in the leg in Winston-Salem

Officers charged Derrick Redd with multiple charges including possible firearm by felon and was taken into custody without bond.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is arrested after a shooting in Winston-Salem, police say. 

Officers responded to N. Patterson Avenue to help EMS with a shooting victim around 4:45 p.m. They found Michael Lee Berry, 47, suffering from a single gunshot wound to his leg. 

Medical aid was given until EMS got there and took Berry to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. His injuries aren't expected to be life-threatening. 

Detectives identified Derrick Redd, 34, as the shooter. Officers found him in the downtown area, and he was taken into custody with no bond. 

Redd faces multiple charges and is set to appear in court Thursday. 

This investigation is ongoing.
