Woman dies two days after shooting on E. Twenty-Third St. in Winston-Salem, police say

The Winston-Salem Police Department said a 39-year-old died from her injuries after a shooting on E. Twenty-Third Street.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A woman died two days later after a drive-by shooting in Winston-Salem Friday, according to police.

The Winston-Salem Police Department said it happened around 10:24 p.m. on Oct. 13. When officers arrived at the 1200 block of East Tweety-Third Street about a shooting, they found 39-year-old Natalie Carter and 19-year-old Miya Carter suffering from gunshot wounds.

Natalie Carter was taken to a local hospital and died on Sunday, Oct. 15., according to police.

Investigators said Miya Carter was treated on the scene for minor injuries by EMS.

After an investigation, police said a vehicle pulled up to the 1200 block of Twenty-Third Street while both Natalie Carter and Miya Carter were outside, and a suspect started shooting at them.

Investigators said they believe this was not a random shooting as Natalie Carter and Miya Carter were specifically targeted.

Anyone with any information regarding this investigation is asked to call the Winston-Salem Police Department at 336-773-7700, Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800, or En Espanol at 336-728-3904.
