Loved ones remember local DJ and father killed after crash in Greensboro

Multiple hit-and-runs in Greensboro have families searching for answers. One family remembers a local DJ and father, Kyle Presnell, killed in a crash.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's a crime that involves a suspect who is nowhere to be found with little evidence to provide to the many grieving families.

It's an alarming trend in Greensboro — deadly hit-and-runs.

Thursday night, loved ones gathered to remember the latest victim, a Triad DJ — one of four unsolved hit-and-runs so far in 2024.

Those close to the man said they didn't understand how someone could drive off.

Kyle Presnell leaves behind an entire community of people who cared deeply about him. A community who said he had never met a stranger and knew how to light up a room.

Presnell was a go-getter. Someone who would help anyone in a pinch. Long-time friend Jessica Rogers said he was also well-loved in the area — DJ Kool Kyle.

"Two K's! Kool is spelled with a K," Rogers said.

However, Presnell wasn't just a Triad DJ. He was the father of 8-year-old Aaliyah Presnell.

What makes all of this even more heartbreaking is that she lost her mother three years ago in a car wreck.

"I'm devastated; I mean, she's lost both of her parents in four years; she's 8-years-old," Rogers shared.

Investigators said Presnell was killed early Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run incident off North Holden Road, where he was walking.

Friends and family of Presnell said even if it was an accident, they don't understand why the driver wouldn't call it in.

“I can't believe that somebody could actually hit somebody and leave them there and not at least call 911 or come forth with information, even if it was an accident,” Rogers went on to say.

Rondelle Hagens is another long-time friend of Presnell. She said no amount of justice will bring her friend back, but it will provide some sense of closure to those closest to him.

“Justice, to me, would be for his daughter to know exactly what happened to her father, and she doesn't have to have a whole bunch of question marks,” Hagens said.

Even with both parents gone, Rogers and Hagens said Aaliyah has nothing to worry about, that they will always have her back.

As far as trying to find more answers, they say the community Presnell built will not stop until they do.

The Greensboro Police Department’s crash reconstruction unit is still being investigated.

At this time, the driver who hit and killed Presnell has not been found.
