'The guy who sold me the car told me the warranty covered me bumper to bumper': Read the fine print, don't go on what is said

Call For Action volunteers work cases like this. Join our volunteer group that meets once a week.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — 2 Wants To Know gets hundreds of calls and emails every month from folks who have a consumer issue. One of the top problems is auto repair warranties.

"They assume it's bumper to bumper 100%. More often than not, there are exceptions. There are powertrain warranties, this is a sample of the fine print on a powertrain warranty which includes exceptions. It is spelled out, it's all covered except for this or that," said Michael Fabish, Call For Action Volunteer

All too often, we hear consumers say, 'The guy who sold me the car told me everything would be covered'.

When you call us for help, the first thing we will do is ask for the paperwork. Our Call For Action volunteers go line by line to see if what you need repaired is covered in the warranty.

The fine print is important. Don't take someone's word for what a warranty covers. What is binding is what is on paper.

If you have a consumer issue, our Call For Action volunteers are here to help. They are trained to be the mediator between you and the company, business, or government agency that you're having issues with.

The way you get your case to them is by filling out a complaint form.  Don't miss this,  we cannot work your case unless you have some paperwork-- like a bill, a warranty, or some kind of documentation.

These Call For Action volunteers are busy. There are lots of people in our community who need help. Would you be part of our team?  It's a commitment of a few hours, just once a week. We train you to help your neighbors.

"We all have different backgrounds, and we work together to solve cases and help people out. Everyone in the group looks forward to being together one day a week," said Fabish.

You can fill out the form here or add your info to the Consumer Complaint Form.
