11-year-old injured in High Rock Lake boating accident, officials say

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — An 11-year-old boy was injured in a boating accident in Rowan County.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said the incident happened on High Rock Lake on the northern side of Crane Creek Sunday around 2:15 p.m.

North Carolina Wildlife, Rowan County EMS, Miller's Ferry Fire Department, and the Rowan County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident.

One boat was involved in the accident, and the child was injured by a propeller strike.

NC Wildlife said the boy injured in the accident is going to be ok.

No one has been charged in the incident.

Boating Safety Tips From the NC Wildlife Commission

  • Keep a proper lookout and watch out for other people in the water and other boaters.
  • Have sober boat operators
  • Make sure you have boating safety equipment handy and ready to use
  • Children younger than 13 must wear an appropriate life vest — which is also state law
