Fly The American Flag With Respect

Fly your American flags proudly every day and especially on the Fourth of July.  Tom Garcia shows you how to fly your flag with respect.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- This Fourth of July, many of you will proudly fly the American flag. It's just one way to show your Patriotism.

And if you want to show the ultimate respect for our nation's flag and what it stands for, you don't want to put it up and take it down just any old way.

WFMY News 2's home renovation expert Tom Garcia shows you the proper to way to fly, fold and store the American flag.

"When flying two flags at the same time, there are several things you need to be aware of," said Garcia. "In all cases, the American flag always flies on top. The second flag, which might be a North Carolina flag or a custom flag, should be one size smaller than the American flag and fly below it."

Garcia interviewed Dwight Morris of Carrot-Top Industries. The local company sells American-made products, including American flags, across the country.

"When taking the flag down, folding it will keep the flag looking new. Flags also have very special meaning, display cases are a great way to showcase the flag of a Veteran or family member."

You can see a step by step demonstration of how to fly, fold and store your flags by watching the videos included in this story.
