Davidson Co., Guilford Co., and Greensboro Declare State of Emergency

Greensboro's mayor has declared a State of Emergency, in conjunction with Guilford County, to be effective at noon, Wednesday in anticipation of Hurricane Florence. People are encouraged to sign up for the Guilford Emergency Alert, Notification and Information System, "GEANI."

GREENSBORO, N.C.-- Early Wednesday morning, Guilford County Officials declared a State of Emergency. The declaration started at noon.

With Hurricane Florence is projected to bring significant rainfall and tropical storm force winds for Guilford County and surrounding areas, declaring a state of emergency allows local government Emergency Planners to activate pre-staging and safety protocols for the major inclement weather event.

“It is important for our residents to take this storm seriously and take all necessary precautions”, said Alan Branson, Chairman of the Guilford County Board of Commissioners.

Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan has declared a State of Emergency, in conjunction with Guilford County, which also took effect at noon on Wednesday in anticipation of Hurricane Florence.

People are encouraged to sign up for the Guilford Emergency Alert, Notification and Information System, “GEANI.” This is an automated system that notifies residents of urgent and emergency information through your cell phone, home phone and/or e-mail. The system provides time sensitive, geographically based public safety messages and is available to all residents and businesses within Guilford County.

City crews have ensured that all storm drains are open, and fueled and prepped all vehicles and necessary tools.

Wednesday afternoon, Davidson County followed suit, also declaring a state of emergency due to the potential for high winds, strong rain and flooding.
