Mount Airy is losing its favorite sheriff to the State's capital city.At least, that's the way many folks in the hometown of Andy Griffith see it. Last fall, marketing officials at TV Land announced the cable television network would commission a bronze statue commemorating "The Andy Griffith Show" for Raleigh's Pullen Park.The statue of fictional Sheriff Andy Taylor and his son, Opie, in their opening-credits stroll to the fishing hole is expected to be unveiled in October. But officials in Mount Airy -- generally regarded as the model for the show's fictional town of Mayberry -- say any statue of Sheriff Andy belongs in the Surry County town.
