Mocksville Church Steeple Damaged in Early Morning Fire Possibly Caused by Lightning

The steeple at United Methodist Church on Highway 158 was torn off the roof.

MOCKSVILLE, N.C. — A Mocksville church was damaged in an early-morning fire on Tuesday.

Davie County Communications says a fire at United Methodist Church possibly stemmed from a lightning strike. The steeple was torn off the roof and was on the ground. Around 7 a.m., the fire was seen to be extinguished with no hot spots or visible smoke.

A steeple was damaged in a Davie County church fire Tuesday morning.

The call came in around 3:42 a.m. The Mocksville Fire Department, Smith Grove Fire Department and Cooleemee Fire Department worked to put out the fire. 

No injuries were reported.

The church is on Highway 158.
