LEXINGTON, N.C. — The family of a fallen Triad deputy no longer have to worry about a house payment.

Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced Thursday it paid off the mortgage for fallen Forsyth County sheriff's deputy Auston Reudelhuber.

Deputy Reudelhuber died in the line of duty back in September 2023 when a box truck hit his patrol vehicle head-on. He leaves behind his wife and two daughters.

“He wanted to protect and serve his country and his community,” said his wife Rachel. She added, “Auston had a servant's heart. He ensured people were okay and wanted to fix what he could.”

The 32-year-old had been with the sheriff's office since 2021. He also served with the Davidson County Sheriff's Office and served six years in the U.S. Army overseas in Afghanistan.

Tunnel to Towers honors fallen first responders by paying off mortgages for their families. The organization also paid the mortgage for fallen Greensboro police officer Sgt. Dale Nix.
