Mudslide Possibly Trapped Drivers On I-40 In McDowell Co.

The mudslide happened near Mile Marker 67, trapping people and cars near the area.

McDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- A mudslide forced parts of I-40 to shut down in McDowell County Tuesday night.

The stretch of I-40 in McDowell County reopened around 5 a.m. McDowell County 911/Emergency Management reports there are no problems on I-40.

According to WCNC, the mudslide happened Tuesday near Mile Marker 67, trapping people and cars near the area. High water all over the county made the situation extremely serious.

McDowell County Schools are closed Wednesday due to severe weather and potential for more flooding in the area.
