Eden woman calls WFMY News 2 after problems with a window company

Linda Hampton is often upgrading or replacing older items in her home. One of her latest projects was to replace several of the windows and screens.

EDEN, N.C. — Linda Hampton takes a lot of pride in her home. The two-story home in Eden has been her home for more than four decades.

“I’ve had this house for over 40 years,” Hampton said.

The brick house has been through a lot over the years. It’s also had its fair share of improvements and upgrades.

“We have had a couple of roofs put on, several hot water tanks, new floors,” Hampton said.

The old home is in great shape. Hampton’s next big project was replacing the windows and screens.

“Winterizing the house every way possible. I thought okay windows are next,” Hampton said.

She shopped around and found a company that would replace eight windows for a reasonable price. A crew came out a couple of weeks later to install the new windows.

“That first, second day, I noticed some defects, (in) things they were doing,” Hampton said.

Several of the custom windows were not fitting properly. One side was nice and snug against the frame but there was a gap on the other side. Many of the screens were also not fitting properly.

“The gentleman (who came out) was nice, but sloppy work, very sloppy.” Hampton said.

After taking a close look at all the windows, Hampton decided to call the company. She spoke with the owner who sent another installer out. He made a few changes, but Hampton was still not satisfied. She wasn’t exactly sure what to do next.

“I prayed about it for real. I do not like stuff like this. I like to get the job done and leave people alone,” Hampton said.

Those prayers led her to contact WFMY News 2 for some help.

“I see you on TV many times (2 Wants to know). I thought I’d never be (the) one to call you all,” Hampton said.

After speaking with Hampton, we reached out to the window company. The owner agreed to visit the home himself and have a new installer look at the work as well. The process took some time, but the company finally did get the fit right.

It also waived the remaining $1,000 balance Hampton owed.

“I’m satisfied. I’m glad I did contact you,” Hampton said.

The new windows are ready now just in time for the cold season.
