Toyota's multi-billion-dollar investment impacts the Triad

Toyota announces $8 billion investment that will add 3K jobs to battery plant in Liberty, bringing total job count to 5K.

LIBERTY, N.C. — More than 5,000 Jobs are headed to Liberty, NC thanks to a $8 billion investment from Toyota.

Nearly 3,000 more job opportunities will be available once construction is finished at the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite.

In total, that’s a 13.9 billion investment, making it 13 times more than Toyota originally promised back in 2021.

Crews at the Toyota Battery Manufacturing Plant are working on installing more walls to support even more battery production lines – bringing the total to ten battery lines.

“Today’s announcement reinforces Toyota’s commitment to electrification and carbon reduction, bringing jobs and future economic growth to the region,” President of Toyota North Carolina, Sean Suggs said. “We are excited to see the continued energy and support of this innovative manufacturing facility.”

Over the past two years, it gradually invested more money and created more jobs.

This announcement brings the total investments to just under $14 billion, which will support the creation of 5,000 jobs.

Toyota partnered with several Triad colleges to hire people from the area whom they can teach to become battery manufacturers.

“Through the last few years of building relationships, including my most recent trip to Tokyo and meeting with President Sato, our partnership with Toyota has become stronger than ever, culminating in this historic announcement,” North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper said. “North Carolina’s transition to a clean energy economy is bringing better paying jobs that will support our families and communities for decades to come.”

Toyota has put more than 24.6 million hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell, and battery electric vehicles on the road globally. By 2025, the company plans to have an electrified option available for every Toyota and Lexus model globally.
