GREENSBORO, N.C. —
UPDATE: The WFMY News 2 Shred-a-Thon has been postponed due to possible thunder/lightning on the original date. A new date is being determined.
Get ready to be part of the WFMY News 2 Shred-A-Thon. All you have to do is load up your documents and paperwork that needs to be shredded and our volunteer crew and the PROSHRED-Raleigh trucks do the rest of the work.
The Shred-A-Thon is Tuesday, May 14, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Greensboro Coliseum. Bring three boxes or bags.
What should you shred?
The FTC made a list of the things you should shred all the time to the things you should never shred.
SHRED IT NOW
It would be best if you consistently shredded sales receipts unless you think you might take the item back, ATM receipts and paid credit card statements and utility bills, credit card offers, and canceled checks that aren't tax-related.
SHRED IT AFTER A YEAR
It would be best if you were shredding pay stubs, bank statements, and any paid undisputed medical bills.
SHRED IT AFTER 7 YEARS
Get rid of all tax-related receipts, checks, W2s.
NEVER SHRED
Birth certificates, social security cards, any marriage or divorce documents, and the actual tax return itself
The PROSHRED company makes all the shredding happen, but the men from the Tau Omega chapter of Omega Psi Phi volunteer every year. They do the heavy lifting with their big muscles and big hearts!
