Easing mask restrictions for fully-vaccinated people is a good sign - My 2 Cents

The CDC says fully-vaccinated people can stop wearing masks outdoors and around other people in some cases.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It's time for 'My 2 Cents.'

Yesterday the CDC released new guidelines for people who are fully vaccinated - that means people with two doses of the Pfizer and Moderna shots or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson shot.

So if that applies to you - the CDC says you can start doing many of the things you stopped doing because of the pandemic. You can start getting together with other fully vaccinated people... inside... without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart. Same goes for unvaccinated people who all live together.

You can do things outside without wearing a mask unless it's really crowded... then put it back on. You don't need to get tested before or after you travel.

It's a bit of a relief and I'm glad we are taking another step forward.

I think this sends a message to people that the vaccine works and it's our key to getting back to normal. It tells us that this is temporary if we all do our part. And I hope it encourages others.

All of these new guidelines come at a time when vaccines are easier to get than ever. Here in the Triad, you can get a vaccine without making an appointment at some places. Quite a difference from what we saw at the start of the year.

As more people get their shots and we continue down this path to life as we knew it - I'm glad to see changes being made.
