One person dead after Winston-Salem double stabbing, police say

Police said two stabbings happened Tuesday morning. They were separate incidents but are connected.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is dead after a double stabbing Tuesday morning, according to Winston-Salem police.

Officers said 38-year-old Jamar Dewan Wiley was stabbed on North Liberty Street just before 9 a.m. Tuesday near Jacob Market. He was taken to a hospital and later died from his injuries Wednesday.

Officers have identified the second stabbing victim as 26-year-old Nicolas Miguel Kea.

Detectives said they identified Jeffery Silva and Daniel Noyola-Lopez and arrested them on Tuesday. Noyola-Lopez is now charged with felony murder and remains in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center with no bond.

Winston-Salem police said the two stabbings that happened minutes apart from one another Tuesday are connected.

The store owner wouldn't go on camera but said this incident and others like it happened in the lot next to his store.

Police said surveillance footage shows two suspects leaving in a Chevy Tahoe after the stabbing.

Investigators said that the same Chevy Tahoe was seen leaving a second stabbing scene less than 20 minutes later — this one on Patterson Avenue, where Kea suffered from minor injuries.

This all took place near 525 at Vine, an office building where Kayla Shaffer works. She said she got an email from her employer about 30 minutes later telling people to be cautious. She also said this situation was shocking but only to a certain extent.

"You know, we're in a city, I'm sure anything can happen at any time, and you know, being from New York, it's not something that I'm not used to,” Shaffer shared.

Winston-Salem police said they were able to link the two crimes through the city's Real Time Crime Center, a relationship in which local business owners willingly share camera footage with police.

Shaffer said she would now keep an extra eye out.

"I don't think I'm going to worry too much about it, but I definitely try to be very aware of my surroundings at all times so it's just gonna be something that I keep locked away in the back of my head to you know, just make sure I am aware of my surroundings,” Shaffer added.

As all of this was happening, nearby Wake Forest University sent out a Wake Alert to let students know of a crime in the area.

At this point, police said this does not appear to be a random act of violence.
