Greensboro Library sensory event

At the Greensboro Public Library, storytime is not just for children. Central Library will host a Sensory Storytime for Adults with Special Needs from 1-2 pm, Thursday, April 13 at 219 N. Church St. Sensory Storytime encourages adults of all ages and abilities to engage with literacy through books, storytelling, songs, and rhymes to stimulate the senses. 

This program is specifically designed for adults with autism spectrum disorders, neuro-diversity, and their caregivers. Individuals, families, and adult daycare groups are encouraged to attend. Randolph County child abuse walk

The Randolph County Department of Social Services (DSS), in partnership with Randolph Partnership for Children, Randolph County Emergency Services, Randolph County Public Health, Emmy's House Children's Advocacy Center, and Randolph County Guardian Ad Litem, will be hosting a Child Abuse Prevention "Walk" in downtown Asheboro on April 14, 2023, from 9:00 am -11:30 am, to raise public awareness during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. 

The event will begin with an opening ceremony at 9:00 am, followed by a mile walk that will focus on advocating for prevention, building community capacity, and raising awareness to prevent child abuse and neglect, strengthen families, and foster healthy children and youth.

Glenwood Grind Skateboarding and Roller Skating

The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department hosts Glenwood Grind, a free event celebrating skateboarding and roller skating, from 11 am to 2 pm, on Saturday, April 15, at the Glenwood Skate Spot, 2010 Coliseum Blvd.

There will be a skateboard trick competition, roller skating instruction, food, art, music, and more. All ages are welcome at this family-friendly event.

Learn to Mountain Bike in April and May

The Greensboro Mountain Bike Experience is offering free mountain-biking lessons from 6-8 pm, on April 19 and 26 and May 3 and 10, at Lake Higgins. Beginners are welcome. This program is free but registration is required.

The Greensboro Mountain Biking Experience is a unique opportunity for riders of any skill level to learn the fun sport of mountain biking. Bikes are provided or you can bring your own. Bring a helmet, water bottle, and bike gloves if you have them.

Guilford County

GuilfordWorks is partnering with NCWorks and Triad Goodwill to host the Fresh Start Hiring Event and Resource Fair 11:30 am to 1:30 pm Friday, April 14, at Warnersville Recreation Center, 601 Doak St., Greensboro. For more information, visit GuilfordWorks.org.

GuilfordWorks hosted the Fresh Start Employer Info Session on March 21 to provide local employers with insights and information about the benefits of hiring justice-served individuals. The session included information about support and resources, testimonials, and reentry models. 

The Fresh Start Hiring and Resource Fair, ideal for individuals returning to the workforce after incarceration, features more than 20 employers and more than 15 resource providers. Starting pay is $20/hour for most positions.

Rockingham County

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office will host a Career Expo on Saturday, April 15th, for those interested in starting an exciting new career in law enforcement.

From 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., the Career Expo will focus on Detention Officers. We will be going over the duties and responsibilities of a Detention Officer for the Rockingham County Detention Facility, as well as salaries and benefits. Detention Captain Windell Brown will be on hand to answer any questions the attendees may have.

From 10 a.m. - NOON, the Career Expo will focus on Sworn law enforcement positions, specifically Sheriff's Patrol, Courtroom Bailiff, and Detective positions. During this part of the Career Expo, we will be going over the duties and responsibilities, as well as salaries and benefits, of a Deputy Sheriff working in the Patrol, Bailiff, and Detective Divisions of the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office. Representatives from the Patrol, Bailiffs, and Detective Divisions will be on hand to answer attendees' questions about their respective fields.

Great American clean up

Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful is looking for volunteers to assist with the Great American Cleanup on Saturday, April 15, from 9 a.m. to noon. Bags, gloves, and vests are provided, as well as lunch. The event has been rescheduled from Saturday, April 1 due to the weather.

Keep Winston-Salem Beautiful plans to clean up streets, parks, streams, and schools throughout the city. Volunteers can request a place they want to clean or be assigned a location.

This is the 25th year of the Great American Cleanup, which provides an excellent opportunity for students, scouts, and members of service clubs to complete community service hours.

Fun Fourth in Greensboro

The fourth of July is months away, but planning is underway for the Fun Fourth Festival in downtown Greensboro. The Freedom Run and Freedom Fest are returning. The race will kick off the holiday, then the Freedom Fest will be held along elm street, featuring live music, performances, food, vendors, and more. Then, the night ends with fireworks courtesy of the Greensboro Grasshoppers after their game.

The city relies on hundreds of volunteers. You can sign up at funfourthfestival.org.
