Japanese Prime Minister visiting Toyota battery plant and HondaJet on Friday

Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio will visit two job sites in the Triad.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Triad will welcome Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on Friday. The international leader will tour two job sites with North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper.

The prime minister will see the Toyota facility at the Greensboro-Randolph megasite. The company will hire thousands over the next few years to make electric vehicle batteries.

He will also visit the HondaJet facility. The PTI-Airport site is expanding and adding hundreds of jobs.

Both Toyota and HondaJet are Japanese companies.

Long-lasting relationships, that's what Governor Cooper told WFMY News 2 he is working to build here in the Triad with Japan.

"They are a great ally of our country, and many of these companies aren’t looking for the quick buck," Governor Roy Cooper said. "They are looking for investment in the long term, and that’s what we’re looking for in North Carolina."

Toyota battery plant

  • The nearly $14 billion investment will create 5,000 jobs over the next several years.
  • The company is partnering with several Triad colleges to teach and hire people to become battery manufacturers.
  • Hiring is already underway. The company plans to add 450 more employees in 2024.
